Hatay, Türkiye – After the devastating earthquakes of February 6, 2023, a school funded by a humanitarian donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and constructed by Turmaks, a prominent Turkish company specializing in mobile hospitals and disaster recovery, have opened their doors in the Hatay region.

During the inauguration ceremony in Altınözü, Hatay, Türkiye’s Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, praised the quick restoration of educational infrastructure in the earthquake-stricken regions. He noted that classroom numbers in the 11 affected provinces now exceed pre-earthquake levels by 10%.
Hatay Governor Mustafa Masatlı explained that 210 schools were destroyed by the earthquake, and 517 have been repaired. He added that a total of 118 new schools have been constructed, including the three officially opened today.

Ruben V. Alliaud, President of the Foundation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, stated, “These schools are a beacon of hope for children and communities deeply impacted by the earthquake.”
